Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In its multiannual strategic framework, AIDS Action Europe (AAE) decided to work on the topic of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and in particular
  • Combination Prevention* and
  • Chemsex*
We would like to draw your attention today to our two upcoming webinars on those topics. If you are interested in quality improvement in combination prevention and/or chemsex interventions, please register below.

The webinars offer you an insight into the benefits of structured quality improvement. We will introduce practical tools, encourage exchange among the participants and inform you about how you can get support to apply the tools in your work. The webinars will be conducted in English.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

In 2018 AAE assigned consultants to adapt the quality assurance tools developed by the Quality Action Joint Action to fit for projects and programmes run in the fields of combination prevention and chemsex.

Two webinars will be conducted on 14 May, 2019. Later this year, ten AAE member organizations will be invited to participate in a workshop addressing the practical application of the tools and will be provided with a small grant to implement the tools in their selected projects in 2019.

*Combination Prevention is defined by the UNAIDS Prevention Reference Group as “...rights-based, evidence-informed, and community-owned programmes that use a mix of biomedical, behavioural, and structural interventions, prioritized to meet the current HIV prevention needs of particular individuals and communities, so as to have the greatest sustained impact on reducing new infections.”

Combination prevention is a combination of biomedical, behavioural and structural interventions, such as promoting & conducting testing, PrEP provisions, early initiation of treatment (TasP), initiatives against discrimination or to improve access to health services etc.

*Chemsex is defined as the use of any combination of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine, mephedrone and/or GHB/GBL before and/or during sex among gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and trans and non-binary people.

Chemsex is a particular type of sexualized substance practice amongst gay and bisexual men, other men who have sex with men (MSM), and trans and non-binary people who participate in the “hook-up culture”.
