    With this newsletter we would like to share with you our latest updates on our news and activities. In the beginning of the month AAE participated in a kick off meeting of a new EU funded project on men who have sex with men which took place in Luxembourg.
    Furthermore we have an update following the recent Russian elections regarding the foreign agents law in Russia.
   Please also note that there is call for abstracts and scholarship to participate in the 2nd HepHIV conference. The deadline of submission is 17 October 2016.

EU funded project on MSM launched

What to expect after  
the Russian Parliament Elections        

On 5-6th of September 2016 the kick
off meeting for a new EU funded project on men who have sex
with men (MSM) took place in Luxembourg. Based on the EMIS survey in 2010, a new EMIS survey addressing MSM will be part of the project. On top of that community health
workers are at focus.
The project will be coordinated by the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin.

After the recent elections to the State Duma in Russia last Sunday, it became clear that the legislative strategy of the Russian Parliament regarding civil society is unlikely to change and civil society in Russia will continue to face obstacles.
In recent months we have seen the further worsening of the situation in the Russian Federation related to the application of the so called “foreign agents’ law” on the NGOs working in the field of prevention and health care.

22 August, 2016, the European Commission announced the admission of Truvada as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV) in all 28 EU member states. Experts believe that it will be available on the pharmaceutical market within the next 6 months. Already now PrEP plays an important role, along with other measures, in HIV prevention. Read more

AAE is going to participate in the 2nd HepHIV conference which takes place in Malta 31 January - 2 February 2017. We want to encourage members of civil society organisations particularly from Central and Eastern European and Central Asian countries to submit abstracts and apply for scholarship! Deadline for abstracts / scholarship applications is 17 October. Read more

HA-REACT NEWS

Please find under the link below the updated list of meetings and events of the HA-REACT joint action. HA-React is a Joint Action on “HIV and Co-infection Prevention and Harm Reduction” which brings together 23 Associated Partners and several more Collaborating Partners to address gaps in the prevention of HIV and other co-infections (particularly tuberculosis and hepatitis) in priority areas of the EU.The HA-REACT joint action is working towards reducing, through the concerted action and promotion of best practices among the partners, the disparities of access to preventive health and social services for a particularly vulnerable population group, people who inject drugs (PWID). Read more

Action plan for the health sector response to viral hepatitis in the WHO European Region

This is the first Action plan for the health sector response to viral hepatitis in the WHO European Region. It is aligned with both the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Health 2020, the European policy for health and well-being. This new Action plan addresses all five hepatitis viruses with a particular focus on HBV and HCV and adapts the Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis 2016– 2021, adopted by the Sixty-ninth World Health Assembly in May 2016, to the political, economic and epidemiological contexts of the European Region.

This leaflet is the part of  Joint Action on HIV and Co-infection Prevention and Harm Reduction (HA-REACT). 
Leaflets and posters for people who use drugs (PWUD) have been prepared by the Work package 4 “Testing and linkage to care” to promote rapid HIV and HCV tests in low threshold facilities in Latvia and Hungary. These client centred information materials should motivate PWUD to get tested for HIV and HCV. The materials are available in English, Hungarian, Latvian and Russian.

Hepatitis C among drug users in Europe: 
epidemiology, treatment and prevention

A state of the art review of the epidemiology of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in Europe and an overview of the way preventive measures are currently implemented in European countries set the scene. International experts address the treatment of HCV infection among people who inject drugs, with an emphasis on how we encourage uptake and deliver effective outcomes. Implementation issues are also explored, as are the complementary roles of treatment and prevention.
