JOINT ACTION ON HIV AND CO-INFECTION PREVENTION AND HARM REDUCTION #HAREACT
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

In this newsletter you will find the latest updates on Joint Action HA-REACT, a three-year project that addresses existing gaps in the prevention of HIV and other co-infections, especially TB and viral hepatitis, among people who inject drugs (PWID):
  • Free trainings tools on harm reduction are now avialable online.
  • HA-REACT closing meeting at the 4th European Harm Reduction Conference. 
  • Interview with András Szabó who works in a low-threshold centre in Hungary
  • Latest clearinghouse updates include a practical guide as well as leaflet on opioid substitution treatment in prison settings.  
HA-REACT was launched in late 2015 with core funding by the Health Programme 2014-2020 from European Union (EU). Twenty-two partners representing 18 EU Member States are currently implementing the project. The HA-REACT project has been carried out in three focus countries: Latvia, Lithuania and Hungary. However, materials developed as part of the Joint Action will be of benefit to the entire European Union. More information is available at  www.hareact.eu

Free trainings tools on harm reduction avialable online

HA-REACT has launched new online tools to train staff in low-threshold settings. They include courses on HIV and HCV testing and linking to needed care, on opioid substitution treatment and condom distribution programmes in prison settings, on needle and syringe programmes and harm reduction in prisons.

4th European Harm Reduction Conference

​The main event in the field of harm reduction will take place on November 21-23, 2018, in Bucharest, Romania. The conference will present the latest harm reduction research results, innovative and good practices and discuss drug policy including the need to scale up harm reduction services. Furthermore, the conference provides a platform to create a link between national and European developments in drug policies and harm reduction.

András Szabó works at one of the low-threshold centres of  NGO INDIT. The NGO INDIT Foundation is one of the few organisations, which provides harm reduction services for people who use drugs in Hungary.
