Training to improve HIV Prevention in Europe
Quality Action is a unique EU- wide project that aims to increase the effectiveness of HIV prevention in Europe. It promotes quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI) tools that are adapted to practice and are useful for practitioners. In April and May Quality Action organised several training workshops offering knowledge and skills to make it even easier to apply the five Quality Action tools. Bertus Tempert and Koenraad Vermey, representing Soa Aids Nederland (STI Aids Netherlands), participated in the 3-day training in Tallinn, Estonia.
“We were impressed with the excellent and smooth execution of the course in a pleasant work environment. In between abundant lunches and coffee breaks a lot of work was done, including lively discussions on existing examples of HIV prevention projects.”

Project in the Spotlight: Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe |
Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe (German AIDS Service Organisation) non-government organisation involved in HIV, STI and hepatitis prevention since the beginning of the HIV epidemic. The organisation was founded in 1983 and is the largest as well as the national peak body of the German AIDS service organisations. It is a not-for-profit, non-government association by and for communities and individuals affected and threatened by HIV and AIDS. They focus on people who are particularly vulnerable to infection, especially MSM, but also people who inject drugs, prisoners, migrants, women. Its prevention activities include campaigns, information, materials, outreach and trainings, supporting self-organisation networks.
The work of the Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe is based on the scientifically proven concept of “Structural Prevention”. The organisation develops, implements and evaluates specific health promotion campaigns as well as a range of other prevention interventions for HIV as well as STIs and hepatitis.
This year the Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe was celebrating its 30 th birthday with an anniversary campaign “Did you know?”. Within this campaign and by means of the slogan 10 HIV positive and negative people tell their very personal stories. Local AIDS service organizations in 15 cities brought the campaign messages to people on the streets to create space where everyone will be able to reflect on all changes happening around HIV in the last 30 years.
