Communities at the core and forefront of the HIV response

AIDS Action Europe proudly announces its support to HIV2020: Community Reclaiming the Global Response conference, taking place in Mexico City on July 5-7, 2020.

AIDS Action Europe salutes the communities that have been at the core and the forefront of the HIV response since the very beginning. Without the tireless efforts of communities of people living with HIV/AIDS, gay men and other MSM, sex workers, drug users, migrants and other mobile populations, women and young people affected by HIV, the global HIV-response would not be remotely there where it is now. HIV 2020 will be a community-led, -driven, and –organized event focusing on communities roles and needs in the HIV response. The conference will address themes and topics including community-led responses in HIV – the lack of funding and shrinking space for civil society; major barriers to service delivery and accessing comprehensive prevention, treatment and care services, including SRHR services; the criminalization of and discrimination against people living with HIV and other key populations.

Policymakers called to prioritise quality of life of PLHIV on political agenda

HIV Outcomes launched a Call to Action urging European policymakers to ensure that long-term health outcomes and the quality of life of people with HIV are high on the political agenda.

‘Europe must ensure that people living with HIV have good health-related quality of life and that stigma and discrimination are eliminated. As policymakers, we are committed to deliver for citizens by supporting policy change to secure the long-term health and wellbeing of people living with HIV. The Call to Action and insights from Lancet HIV as well as HIV Outcomes’ in-country activities offer concrete actions to make this happen,’ the MEPs said in a joint statement.

Overcoming obstacles to access to PrEP in Europe

More than 200 activists, PrEP users, civil society, academia and doctors have gathered from all over Europe and Central Asia to discuss the current state, challenges and opportunities of PrEP use, at the 2nd European PrEP Summit, which took place in Warsaw, Poland from October 10-12.

PrEP is mostly accepted and supported at the peer and community level by gay men and other MSM, while in other communities, such as among women, there is a lot of stigma and shame surrounding PrEP use.

LATEST CLEARINGHOUSE UPDATES
HIV testing, Monitoring implementation of the Dublin Declaration on partnership to fight HIV/AIDS in Europe and Central Asia: 2018 progress report

This ECDC report presents the situation of HIV testing in Europe and Central Asia. It summarises data on implementation of national guidelines that shape HIV testing policies, the provision and uptake of HIV testing services in general and among key populations, and efforts being made to widen engagement with HIV testing and reduce late diagnosis.
2019 EU Drug Markets Report from the EMCDDA and Europol

This report provides a strategic and action-oriented analysis of the information available on Europe’s drug market. It uses a broad definition of the illicit drug market, encompassing the illicit production, trafficking, wholesale distribution and sale of controlled substances to the end user. The drug market has wide-ranging impacts on both security and public health, and therefore such a holistic and systemic perspective is important for the effective delivery and monitoring of drug control policy and supply reduction activities.
