This report introduces an approach to drug harm reduction: policies and interventions aimed at reducing drug-related harm for people who use drugs and for society as a whole.
It is driven by interviews with people who use drugs, social workers, clinicians, researchers, etc. Reviewing scientific evidence on harm reduction and other related content.
The report has been produced without making a value judgement, and it respects different life styles and choices: its aim is to show an approach based on the opportunities that harm reduction offers to people who use drugs, to the community and to society.
This document has been drafted for use in the European context, but it can most likely be applied to situations of drug use in other regions as well. It is part of the joint action ‘677085 / HA-REACT’ which has received funding from the European Union’s Health Programme (2014-2020).
