Truck drivers and casual sex: an inquiry into the potential spread of HIV/AIDS in the Baltic region

by M. Chawla, A. Kozierkiewicz, M. Kulis, E. Subata

This report is based on a survey that explores the practice of casual sex among truck drivers and sex workers in the border areas of Poland and Lithuania. The Baltic states are particularly vulnerable to the spread of HIV as they are at the crossroads of the main east-west and north-south transport corridors. The survey found that a large number of truck drivers engaged in casual sex while on the move, and most respondents did not feel they were in danger of contracting HIV/AIDS.
