AIDS Action Europe – in partnership with WHO Europe and BZgA German Health Promotion Centre – coordinates a working group on Quality Assurance (QA) and Improvement in HIV Prevention.

In the fight against HIV and AIDS prevention continues to play a crucial role. To reinforce the effectiveness of HIV prevention within the European Region, cross-national exchange of know-how and experience in the area of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) in HIV/AIDS prevention is essential.

Quality assurance (QA) is understood as planning and development of 1. objectives for quality, 2. setting and communicating standards of quality, and 3. indicators to monitor compliance with set standards. Quality improvement (QI) is the process of identifying and acting on variation from defined standards with the aim to improve performance and outcomes. Both approaches are not well developed and standardized for HIV prevention.

On Monday 19 July the working group will be organising a satellite session at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna. The meeting will be in English language and unfortunately there is no interpretation available. Government and civil society organisations working in HIV prevention are invited to present their experiences with quality assurance and/or improvement.
