4th Meeting of the ECDC Hepatitis B and C Network and joint meeting with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) Drug-Related Infectious Disease (DRID) Network

14 June 2017

During the pan-European infectious disease meeting of the ECDC and EMCDDA, three major European projects had the opportunity to share their work in a “world café” format. In an effort to get participants out of their seats and engaging with the speakers, small groups circulated around meeting room meeting each of the four below project groups to hear more about their work:

  • HA-REACT: Improved capacity to respond to HIV and co-infection risks and provide harm reduction with specific focus on people who inject drugs (PWID) in the EU.
  • HEPCARE Europe: Improve access to HCV testing and treatment among key risk groups, including drug users and homeless, through outreach to the community and integration of primary and secondary care services.
  • E-DETECT TB: Early detection and integrated management of tuberculosis in Europe.
  • Grupo de Ativistas em Tratamentos (GAT): Local community-based project "In-Mouraria" focusing on: safer drug use; access to health and social services for people who use drugs and/or alcohol, including access to treatment; increased integration of people who use drugs; and tackling stigma and discrimination.

Topics for discussion were:

  • Dissemination: How do we reach the right people and enable them to use projects resources (workshops, trainings, tools and websites)?
  • Engagement: How do we motivate people to get the necessary training and use the available tools?
  • Sustainability: How do we ensure the future of harm reduction after EU funding?
