AIDS Action Europe (AAE) and its host organisation AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW) are organising a training on ‘Regional capacity building and NGO resource mobilization in HIV advocacy’. The training will be held as part of the
ROST project (Responding to HIV through Organisational Support and Technical Cooperation in EECA) from 5 to 7 July in Kiev.

Training participants will represent HIV-service NGOs from 14 countries of Central Asia and Eastern Europe: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Transnistria, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. In total, the training will unite 30 AAE members – specialists from various NGOs working with vulnerable groups in the field of HIV prevention and care.

The three-day training will cover the following topics:

  • Advocacy work and events, and their difference from other social interventions; best practices in advocacy on the global level and in EECA;
  • Analysing the current advocacy-related, country-specific issues, and identifying resources for the launch of local advocacy initiatives by training participants;
  • Studying forms, methods and techniques of advocacy;
  • Developing regional advocacy plans at the level of municipal, regional and federal/republican institutions.

It is expected that, as a result of the training, each participant will devise a detailed work plan on advocacy. Moreover, knowledge and skills generated during the training will be used to create a general presentation on HIV-related advocacy in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
