30 years on from the discovery of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) this conference seeks to explore the multitude of ways in which HIV has been described, constructed and experienced.

HIV carries high levels of significance and many different meanings - everyone has their own particular response and understandings which can compromise communication and impede progress towards solutions.

With participants drawn from across the spectrum of academic disciplines together with people who are living with HIV and practioners from a number of fields this conference will disentangle the complicated discourse that HIV has engendered and provide an opportunity to improve understanding, develop better communication and encourage dialogue to address the complex challenges that are still posed by HIV in the 21st century.
