Increasing Capacities, achieving Novelty (iCAN): Pan-European Conference on Community Empowerment and Sustainable Responce to HIV/AIDS

Objectives of the conference:

1) Share and exchange best practices of community involvement in HIV treatment, care and prevention in Europe.

The conference will showcase success stories of community empowerment, participatory approaches to policy making, as well as effective health literacy strategies. The conference will catalyse the sharing of best practices by patients and civil society organisation in EU and neighbouring countries for sustainable responses to the HIV epidemic in Europe.

2) Support the development of policy dialogue between patient organisations and stakeholders to facilitate access to HIV treatment for all.

The conference will support the networking between HIV communities, academia, health workers and policy makers to develop joints responses to facilitate access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care. It will highlight the effectiveness of meaningful community involvement and evidence-based interventions. This includes the cost-effectiveness of targeted prevention, testing and prevention for groups at risk of HIV infection in Europe.

3) Support the development of capacity-building skills and networking among communities to ensure effective health policies in Europe.

The conference will address barriers that limit capacity-building interventions for and by communities in responding to the HIV epidemic. The session will contribute to the strengthening of communities in Europe so that they are in a better position to roll out effective interventions addressing HIV related challenges in different parts of Europe.

4) Making the case for community and civil society involvement in prevention and in voluntary testing and counselling programmes for HIV and other related infections.

The objective is to highlight the importance and aptitude of civil society and patient organisations in delivering services and to provide input in policy development to ensure access to health services for all. Moreover, the conference will introduce local HIV community organisations to tools to enhance HIV treatment literacy and advocacy, which have proven effective in achieving measurable outcomes in.
