is a unique EU- wide project that aims to increase the effectiveness of HIV prevention in Europe. It promotes quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI) tools that are adapted to practice and are useful for practitioners. In April and May Quality Action organised several training workshops offering knowledge and skills to make it even easier to apply the five Quality Action tools. Bertus Tempert and Koenraad Vermey, representing Soa Aids Nederland (STI Aids Netherlands), participated in the 3-day training in Tallinn, Estonia.
Together with over a dozen participants from all over Europe, Tempert and Vermey were both trained in the quality improvement tool ‘Succeed’. Succeed is a comprehensive, easy-to-use questionnaire designed to assess and improve HIV prevention projects. The tool is divided into three parts: Structure, Process and Results. Preferably, Succeed is applied using a participative group work process in order to facilitate exchange and to juxtapose different viewpoints from those involved in the project.
The 3-day training took place at the Estonian National Institute for Health Development. Tempert: “We were impressed with the excellent and smooth execution of the course in a pleasant work environment. In between abundant lunches and coffee breaks a lot of work was done, including lively discussions on existing examples of HIV prevention projects
This year, both Tempert and Vermey will already start applying the Succeed tool to national projects dealing with sexual health promotion and HIV prevention, in outreach settings focusing on men who have sex with men (MSM) in general and more specifically on MSM from ethnic minority backgrounds living in The Netherlands. After the pilot implementation of the tool in their own projects, Tempert and Vermey will provide further training to their colleagues and collaborating partners and disseminate their newly gained knowledge and skills .
