Positive Voice is the first PLHIV organisation officially created in 2009. We wish to develop capacity in order to advocate for the rights of PLHIV and to offer to them support and information.
Our members are prior members or still are members of all existing HIV NGOs in Greece and thus have an experience of what has worked and what not. Many of our members are already quite active at European level.
Although we are still a very young organisation, we have requested and succeeded setting up a broad stakeholder consultation with the National Commission for Human Rights to review examples of discrimination and debate on remedial interventions, including legislative initiatives. We have been involved in the design of a major prevention campaign that is led by a non-HIV specific organisation and we have been scaling up peer psychological and informational support to newly diagnosed patients. We have set up a conference for mass media and HIV/AIDS, we are about to publish in Greek a manual called "living with HIV" and we have already started advocacy on HIV rights and living conditions.
