Bridging the Gaps: Health and rights of key populations: engaging underserved key population in Kyrgyztan: what works?

by Dinara Magdybaeva, Aida Karipova, David Yanchinov

Within the framework of the programme “Bridging the Gaps: Health and rights of key populations”, operational research was conducted among people who inject drugs (PWID), sex workers (SW) and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, as well as outreach workers and managers of local partner organisations of Bridging the Gaps and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) country partner organisations. The aim of this research was to study the factors that motivate and attract new members of the community to join HIV prevention programmes in Bishkek and Osh. This is the first study in the Kyrgyz Republic to examine means of attracting the key populations and the role of outreach to increase the motivation to participate in prevention programmes.
