AIDS Action Europe unites civil society to work towards a more effective response to the HIV epidemic in Europe and Central Asia.

Advocacy

AIDS Action Europe ensures that voices of civil society and people living with HV are heard by policy makers, European institutions and key stakeholders. And that a human rights framework stays at the heart of the response to the epidemic. As co-chair of the HIV/AIDS Civil Society Forum – the NGO advisory body to the European Commission on HIV - we play a central role in policy development and direct dialogue between policy makers and civil society on European HIV policies. We also strengthen advocacy skills of civil society through training and knowledge sharing.

Linking and Learning

AIDS Action Europe hosts the online database on HIV and AIDS for Europe and Central Asia (www.hivaidsclearinghouse.eu).

The clearinghouse enables our members, partners and other interested stakeholders to share their good practice materials and key documents so that they can inspire each other in an interactive manner. Through this kind of knowledge sharing and information exchange we aim to create synergies and prevent stakeholders from reinventing the wheel.

Projects

Through different projects, AIDS Action Europe has built and continues building capacity among its member organisations in the region on a variety of topics and approaches. We are currently running a capacity building project: 'Responding to HIV through Organisational Support and Technical Cooperation in EECA 2010–2012' (ROST).

This 3-year project is implemented by the Moscow Office of AIDS Action Europe’s partner organisation AIDS Foundation East-West. The goal of the project is to strengthen advocacy, resource mobilisation and networking initiatives carried out by AIDS-related non-governmental and community-based organizations at the national and regional level by supporting capacity development in these areas. At the same time this project will increase AIDS Action Europe activities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia and will be a start for more active advocacy in and for this region.
